What do we learn?
We learn letters and sounds as well as to read and write. We use the SuperKids Reading Program to teach us these skills. We have been using this program for three years. I have had the pleasure of implementing reading with the SuperKids and I love it. It has truly been an amazing learning experience. The children absolutely love meeting new SuperKids. We learn not only to read but build listening comprehension as well as writing skills. The program teaches us to read through blending rather than memory words. We learn to read over 200 words by the end of the year.
We learn our math concepts through our new Go Math series. This series has a more hands-on approach to learning various math concepts. Some things we learn are number recognition, counting sets, patterns, addition, subtraction, comparing numbers, measurement, etc. We use many manipulatives each day to guide and help us learn. In addition, we play many math games. We have math centers and play different games at 4-5 stations. The games include: board games, cards, IPAD games, pattern blocks, dice games, etc. In addition, we use the Mathletics program to help us learn. We have so much fun integrating technology with math.
Our science and social studies curriculum covers many themes. We choose topics that are fun, engaging, and hands-on. Here are some things we learn about: Insects, Christmas Around the World, Space, Ocean, Martin Luther King, Presidents, Magnets, Storms, etc.
Religion and PeaceBuilders teaches us to be kind, loving, and respectful. We learn about Jesus through Bible stories and try to show love like he did. Religion teaches us about when God Created the World, Angels, the Birth of Jesus, Christmas, Epiphany, the Holy Family, etc.. PeaceBuilders teaches us to use kind words, share, use helping hands, and create positive behavior in school and at home.
